I couldn’t buy that Gotze was excellent in his first season so to confirm i went to Bayern forum for views from people who saw him on regular basis.

That goal was just individual skill. His form in the World Cup was the
same than with Bayern last season. He was slow and lacked pace. He is
nowhere near his BVB years and now that Kroos has gone to Madrid it’s
time for him to step up
I hope that he decides to keep more focused in his footballing career now.

Gotze’s individual skills
are out of question,he is a world class talent but this year will be
very decisive for him at Bayern,no more excuses or anything,now he needs
to step up and gear up his level and drag Bayern with him,he needs
consistency and not some 10-20’ min of shine.

Besides the one decent chance he had, Gotze was pretty invisible against United (well Muller too, but he is the kind of guy who will score/assists no matter how bad he is playing).
What can we do to entice the kid to good form again? More ice cream and pretzels?

second half of the season Ribéry missed quite a bit and Robben was
having problems, yet Götze was still not performing particularly well. I
find it strange to look at a handful of games and take them to mean
he’s the “best” player in the squad of the season when we have the likes
of Müller (who is still our top overall points scorer) and Kroos (who
didn’t miss a match until the second half of the season because we
needed him to step up due to all the injuries, and who did a tremendous
amount for us as far as dominating the midfield). Even for me
Schweinsteiger with his injury would still be a top contender
considering all he’s put on the line to contribute to the team (playing
countless matches through a lot of pain because he knew someone had to
step up when we had so many injuries, being the one to get us out of
tight situations like against Arsenal and United most recently) over
Götze.

So how would we all rate Gotze’s first season? Obviously he had a bit if
a bad spell but looking at the numbers you cant really complain.

I’m torn. At times he shone like a southern star, but he also
disappeared in games or appeared ineffective. His stats are good enough
for a first season (used a nifty website called Transfermarkt ). We’ll see how Pep utilizes him next season. I’m optimistic; he is among the very best talents in the wooorld.

When playing well he was incredible though.
for me he was a ghost… hopefully with Lewa he’ll find his old form and
confidence. But I fear that he only excel in counter attacking teams -

He plays for half an hour and scores an incredible winning goal, the only goal of the game at that. In terms of skill, quality and importance his contribution exceeds anyone else’s on the pitch. But you’re saying he should have done more.
